On a beautiful Saturday, the family headed out to Great Country Farms for some fun and to pick up some fresh asparagus. The farm is located on 200 acres situated at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Bluemont, VA. The farm offers a wide range of fresh seasonal produce such as asparagus, strawberries, peaches, blackberries, plums, pears and pumpkins. In addition to produce, other products such as local meats, eggs, jams, sauces, honey, Kettle Korn and ice cream are available in the Farm Market. The farm offers Fan of the Farm Season Passes for repeat visitors and Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Produce Memberships. CSA members receive the same benefits as the Fan of the Farm Season Members, plus 20 weeks of seasonal fruits and vegetables.

Asparagus - late April to mid-May. Available at the Farm Market
Strawberries - late April to mid-May. Early Glo, Dar Select, Honey Eye, Chandler varieties.
Blueberries - late June to mid-July. Patriot, Elliot, Blue Ray and Duke bushes.
Plums - throughout the month of July. Methely (a red variety) and Shiro (a lovely yellow) varieties.
Peaches - mid-July to late August. White and yellow freestone peaches. Sugar May and Sugar King are the two most popular varieties.
Blackberries - mid July to early August (peak picking is the last week of July and the first week of August). Grown on trellised thornless canes for easy picking.
Vegetable Garden - late July through September. Tomatoes, okra, green beans, cherry tomatoes, and hot peppers
Potatoes - Labor Day weekend. Kenebec White, Pontiac Red and Yukon Gold varieties, as well as a few Fingerlings.
Concord Grapes - early September.Season is short, please call them for availability.
Pumpkins - last week of September through October.Fall Harvest Festival for the whole family with great food, cider and music.
Green-a-paloosa - late October and November. Kale, Swiss Chard and Mustard Greens.
The farm is open Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Sundays 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Hayrides around the farm are at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. Their Roosterant Concession Stand is open on the Weekends May through October from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and bring the kids for some family fun on their 5 acre play area that includes a giant slide, jumping pillow, cow train, pedal carts, mazes, and a barnyard.
