Shoe's Cup & Cork is not an ordinary shoe repair store to say the least. Housed in the historic Arthur's Shoe Repair building in downtown Leesburg, this revamped charming sandwich & coffee shop will bring much relaxation to a stressful morning, a lunch-break getaway or an evening of hard work. This is probably one of the best "resoled" hangouts in town to unwind, catch up with a friend or discuss business in a relaxed yet classy setting.
When you first walk into the cafe/restaurant, you can't help but notice the modern and unique interior design, which received a "Signatures of Loudoun" Design Excellence award for Best Makeover. While being modern, it distinctly harkens back to the big band era with the original shoe repair and new shoes signs, a very unique chandelier made from old shoes found in the walls, classic hardwood floors, cozy decor and the area surrounding the counter made to replicate the façade of the exterior back in the day when it was a shoe shop. One of our favorite touches was the men's and women's shoes used to designate the bathrooms. The design lives up to its intent to give downtown Leesburg a place not just to sit and enjoy your time with friends, family, or business associates but a place to enjoy your food that has character and soul. Once you visit, you'll get why it's called Shoe's, you'll understand the literary game, you'll fall in love with its soul and want to make it the place you go to unwind, whether that's for a cup of coffee or to pull the cork on a bottle of wine to share with your friends and family.
But if you only visit the inside and don't make a trip back out the front door, turn right, and head down the back alley to the Secret Garden, then you're really missing out on a whole other level of Shoe's soul. Like many of us, it's the hidden secret garden that shows the true character of what we are. In the back you'll find patio seating with lots of greenery and large umbrellas hanging over very comfortable bright colored rocker chairs around plenty of small tables, creating private gathering places for small groups of people. At the far back you'll also find a bocce ball court for some good competitive (or not) fun while you're hanging out enjoying a few drinks. On the weekends the back patio hosts live music, making it an even greater place for relaxing and enjoying yourself.
Ambiance is one thing, but we are about savoring Loudoun, and without its tasty food, Shoes' soul would only be superficial. As anybody with just a great façade and a few intriguing secrets to hide, if they don't have anything worth coming back for then they just don't have real soul. Shoe's has soul and lots of it. The menu has food with as much soul as its decor. They have a Brie LT panini that is among our favorites, as well as their bagel and lox and their amazing kale and quinoa salad made with a fresh in-house lemon vinaigrette. They offer a wide selection of wine and beer to compliment their savory dishes and serve pies from local favorite Mom's Apple Pie. For those of you who love breakfast, they serve it all day long. There's plenty to go back to at Shoes, whether for just a couple of drinks, to grab a quick bite to eat or taking time to have a little joie de vivre while conversing over food and drink.
